The convergence of network technologies has significantly changed the nature of research in the area of communications in distributed systems. The speed of innovation in network technologies is high, but the shift of the value creation towards the applications causes research to refocus. This new focus is certainly the services and service delivery platforms which are driven largely by advances in information technologies and in particular Internet technologies. The increasing competition of international research and development requires early practical demonstrations of new ideas, concepts and principles through validation in form of prototypes and trials. In contrast to technology-, vendor- or operator-specific testbeds, open-testbeds are considered the appropriate catalysts for research in academia and industry to efficiently trial complex scenarios at reasonable cost.
This one-day workshop will explore the current state of technology in the area of open testbeds at national and international level. The objective is, among others, to assess the state and quality of national testbeds in order to support their evolution. For this purpose keynotes and invited presentations will present a number of significant national and international testbed initiatives. Panel discussions will give testbed operators and their potential users and customers the opportunity to interact with the audience and exchange their views on the subject.
The workshop is supported by substantial national and international testbed initiatives.

Die Forschung im Bereich Kommunikation in Verteilten Systemen hat sich in den letzten Jahren durch die Konvergenz von Netztechnologien stark verändert. Die Innovationsgeschwindigkeit in Netztechnologiebereich ist groß, führt aber angesichts sich verändernder Wertschöpfungsketten in Richtung Anwendungen zu einer Verlagerung der Forschung im  Dienste und Dienstplattformenbereich, der derzeit durch Informationstechnologien und insbesondere neue Internettechnologien getrieben wird. Der steigende Wettbewerb in der internationalen Forschung und Entwicklung erfordert heute eine frühzeitige praktische Umsetzung neuer Ideen, Konzepte und Prinzipien durch Validierung in Form von Prototypen und Teststellungen. Im Gegensatz zu Technologie- oder Hersteller-/Betreiberspezifischen Testbeds gelten heute offene Testbeds als wesentliche Katalysatoren für die Forschung in der Akademia und Industrie, da Sie die effiziente Umsetzung komplexer Szenarien mit vertretbarem Aufwand gewährleisten sollen.
Dieser eintägige Workshop soll den aktuellen Stand der Technik im Bereich Offene Testbeds in nationalen und europäischen Umfeld beleuchten. Das Ziel ist u.A. die Stellung und Qualität der nationalen Testbeds einzuschätzen um deren zukünftige Ausrichtung zu unterstützen. Dazu werden in Form von Keynotes und eingeladenen Vorträgen wesentliche nationale und internationale Testbedvorhaben vorgestellt. Panels geben wesentlichen Testbedbetreibern und potentiellen Nutzern die Gelegenheit Ihre Sichten interaktiv mit dem Publikum auszutauschen.
Der Workshop wird dabei von wesentlichen Testbedorganisationen aktiv unterstützt.
