ETSI Workshop on Future Network Technologies Standardization

ETSI is pleased to invite you to a workshop on Future Network Technologies, to be held at ETSI Headquarters, in Sophia Antipolis, France, on 10th and 11th of March 2010.
The first phase of EC-funded FP7 research projects on Future Networks is now at a stage where real results are being produced. It is therefore time to consider pre-standardization or standardization of some of the results, especially on infrastructure or network technology issues.  
The Future Internet Assembly has produced a set of scenarios and a position paper in the field of Management and Service-Aware Network Architectures (MANA).  The MANA Position Paper  includes a list of Grand Challenges and Capabilities:

In parallel, ETSI Technical Committee TISPAN's current work programme on the NGN is well advanced, and the committee is considering requirements for future standardization activities. Network operators are considering what future trends may drive the development of their networks.  They need to take into account recent developments such as machine to machine communications, the growth of user-generated content, the importance of video, the increasing use of mobile internet access, social networking, increased device capabilities etc. But they must also consider issues such as managing the complexity of their networks, explosions in the numbers of connected devices with M2M and the Internet of Things, requirements on openness to new applications, external service providers and business models, the network as a critical infrastructure, demands for ubiquitous connectivity to support ambient intelligence systems, and of course cost reduction.
Therefore many of the topics currently being researched under the label of Future Internet will be relevant for the evolution path of current fixed and mobile telecoms networks.

• Identify potential needs for standardization or pre-standardization of Future Network Technologies at ETSI

TARGET AUDIENCE

• Participants in related FP7 research projects
• Participants in other research activities on the same subjects, such as from EUREKA CELTIC programme
• Participants in ETSI Technical Committees such as TISPAN, ATTM, GRID, M2M etc.
• Participants in ETSI Industry Specification Groups such as AFI, INS, MOI etc.
• Participants in 3GPP groups such as SA1, SA2, CT Working Groups
• Participants in standardization activities at other organisations such as ITU-T and IETF
• Standardization technical managers
• CTO-level and technology management

The workshop is free and is open to non-members of ETSI.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The invitation is now open for papers and presentations to be submitted to the workshop, on topics broadly related to network technologies, resulting from research on Future Networks and Future Internet.  Papers and presentations should consider the potential for standardization of these technologies and issues related to their integration and use in communications networks in the near to medium term. The following is a list of suggested topics, in no order of preference:

The deadlines associated with this event are as follows:
13th January 2010:     Submission of paper/presentation title and short abstract
26th February 2010:      Deadline for complete paper/presentation submission
