FIREweek 2009

FIREweek 2009 Fire and Living Labs - “Future internet by the people”, 1-2 July, Luleå, Sweden

332 delegates from 192 different organizations in 30 countries have participated in the FIREweek 2009 Fire and Living Labs - “Future internet by the people”. Some immediate results from all the joint efforts at the conference can already be seen:

• Evidence show that the awareness of FIRE and Living Labs initiatives has increased broadly and significantly

• A clearly a strengthened perspective of opportunities in closer collaboration between FIRE and Living Labs

• Several new project plans and other initiatives are taken - also jointly by people that had not met before the conference

The organizers are convinced that this conference has ignited actions that will have a clear positive long-term impact on how future internet can/should/has to be evolved and also hope and believe that that this conference – subtitled “Future internet by the people” – has brought everyone forward in a recognition and understanding that the R&D professionals and policy makers, may not only have the focus on creating a future internet for people. Rather, the focus could be on creating technology services and environments that will enable all people to take active part in creation of the future internet.

70 speakers in 22 sessions, SMSs from the "open brain tapping" and video filming etc have all contributed to the comprehensive conference material that will in a few weeks be published, as granted, at http://www.fireandlivinglabs09.eu.
