Technical Information
Brief description of the testbed:
The Distributed Embedded Systems (DES) testbed at the Freie Universität Berlin is a non-commercial research testbed with the focus on wireless mesh networks (WMN) and wireless sensor networks (WSN). The testbed follows a hybrid approach. Each DES-Node consists of an embedded PC board, equipped with up to three IEEE 802.11 network cards, and a wireless sensor node Scatterweb MSB-A2. The core of the testbed, called DES-Mesh, is formed by the IEEE 802.11 network, while the wireless sensor nodes create a parallel testbed called DES-WSN.

Operational information
Description of the services offered:
In order to research on the DES testbed, we need a mechanism to design and conduct experiments in a way that makes them repeatable and reusable. The experimenter must be able to define which programs should be executed on which mesh routers and needs access to the resulting data. To specify these experiment parameters, we developed DES-CRIPT, an XML-based domain specific language. DES-CRIPT allows to conveniently map the outlined logical structure of an experiment to hierarchical sections and makes experiment definitions comprehensible for other users.
