| Brief description of the testbed: | |
| Converging technologies from the fields of broadcasting, internet and telecommunications, the Fraunhofer FOKUS Media Interoperability Lab creates new media applications distinguished by a high degree of interactive, personal and group-oriented usability. All its new developments and applications are based on international IPTV standards. Thus the FOKUS approach represents a significant advance on the IPTV blackbox solutions currently on the market which hardly offer open interfaces and reference points and only a strictly limited number of proprietary CE devices. The Lab’s partnership programs for industrial enterprises are geared to joint development work and the common realization of communication and marketing strategies. | |

| Unique offering: | |
| As one of the worlds first testbeds for NGN-based IPTV, the Media Interoperability Lab is FOKUS’ answer to the current evolvements of various black-box solutions in the IPTV market by pushing ongoing IPTV standardization activities within the different SDOs towards open IPTV frameworks It represents FOKUS’ current activities and strategy in the direction of standardized solutions for IPTV following and inspiring ETSI TISPAN and DVB-IP connecting to open communities, Web 2.0 and of course interactive TV on the move and within the home network. Therefore the Lab utilizes the well known Open IMS Playground and makes use of already available features of this unique infrastructure, demonstrating the interaction between common NGN services and IPTV. As we are an independent research organisation, we are able to provide you tailormade solutions and support without any vendor lock-in. | |
